My top 10 movies of 2011

especially the movies that i saw in New York left a stronger impression. i can feel that atomosphere at the small or the huge theater now.
i choose just 10 movies which i really wanted you to see. my taste is pretty 80's sci-fi geeky, girly or artistic from Hollywood major movies to independent ones.
although some of them have not run in Tokyo. sorry.

2.Win Win by Thomas McCarthy.
3.Beginners by Mike Mills.
4.True Grit by Ethan Coen and Joel Coen.

My Top 5 Records of 2011

this year i didn't buy many records. especially i could not listen to them after 3.11.
but these records make me feel better just like old friends.

1.Metals/Feist
Metals is darker or rougher than Reminder. it probably fits thie year.

2.BLOUSE/BLOUSE

there's a certain comfort in their sound of darkeness.
3.Turtleneck & Chain/Lonely Island

i almost laughing whenever i listen to my dudes' songs.
4.Days/Real Estate

'it's real' is kinda my all time fave acoustic music.
5.Hot Sauce Committee Pt.2/Beastie Boys

i remember 'i'll communication'. this sound is close in it.

Restless

the photo from Madewell

watching a movie at breakfast is the happiest time in a day. today i saw a movie 'Restless' by Gus Van Sant.
Enoch played by Henry Hopper was obsessed with death. on the other hand, Annabel played by Mia Wasikowska had a brain tumor and she knew the rest of her life was too short. they developed their relationship. in additon a weird ghost Hiroshi played by Japanese actor Ryo Kase haunts Enoch like a best friend. it was interesting for Japanese just like me.
i'm always thinking why Gus Van Sant knows young people's pain or grief. he has described it well.
death is not for dying. its for living.
i believe so.

P.S.
i cried a little bit.
nice weekend.

Beginners

last night Beginners by Mike Mills became my fave.
y'all know every costume was designed by Band of Outsiders.
especially Mélanie Laurent's style reminds me of Annie Hall.
very unique and beautiful image stucked in my head.
i was pretty moved, it was not gorgeous hollywood movie though.

i thought about memory, grief and love, before sleep.

'Submarine' Trailer HD

Watching Vampire Weekend's PV directed by Richard Ayoede, it reminds me of JLG films.
the director makes some interesting music videos and films.
the film 'Submarine' is one of them.

up-coming age love, desparate feeling, odd relationship with people, the view of the main role 'Oliver' is pretty funny.
the story is kinda new and old like Wes Anderson films.
it was good that all casts were not gorgeous.

especially i really loved the casette tape made by Oliver's father.
feeling like late 80's. please check it!

a good coincidence

Hello,

The beginning of July was too hot, but now it's not.
Where is summer?

Recently I've been too busy to do anything.
All I want to do is to see my fave comedy movies and doze off in the afternoon.
That's it.

So I know some friends are in an awkward situation like me.
You say fucked up. I curse my life.
But in that time, I always think its not right time and place.
You'll find a good coincidence definetely, if you can proceed.

Enjoy your summer xx

My Ending is Your Beginning

IMG_0647

The strong sunshine is coming through a curtain in my room. I can't sleep anymore.
Every summer i feel like death due to the heat. You never imagine this season in Japan.
It's kind of like something burning down or exploding on the ground.
That's why my cat and i spend a lot of time being in my room to keep away from the daylight.
Now i'm reading Afterzine No.2.
I enjoyed reading the articles of Mike Mills & Miranda July, they are all time my favorite artists.
I thought about  the coincidence in my life or my Ending and your Beginning,
although their latest films are not released in Japan now. it sucks :/

My world is pretty tiny, nobody shares my feeling.
But I believe that i can connect to the other world when i touched the unknown things and found something.
I really love that moment.
It's like a small circle. it's getting bigger little by little.

Reading Afterzine No.2, i'm thinking just like that.

About AFTERZINE

i've been thinking that i really wanted to write about AFTERZINE curated by Hamish Robertson.
i found this awesome magazine on Twitter last month, but i was too busy to read all.
finally i read almost 80%.
IMG_0601
24hours day we are running in noisy internet, tv, work ... a tons of things surround our lives.
if i had more time, i would read a lot of books. in that time, i want to think about something away from my personal place. i felt like i went somewhere else while i was reading AFTERZINE.

my favourite article is beautiful books in New York Public Library.
it was very interesting to glimpse someone's selection. people will know their character from it.
so i mean next issue will be great too, i cant wait :)

i select my books, it reflects my taste. funny & loneliness, i love both kind of feelings.
Mirand July's book is completely worn out, cuz iam always reading in bathtub.

*Not in Fashion / Mark Borthwick
*I Found Funny / Judd Apatow
*Never Let Me Go / Kazuo Ishiguro
*No One Belongs Here More Than You / Mirand July

New York Diary 4

I ate out almost every day. But in that time I had a stomach ache.
Because every food was completely large for me, but it was too deliscious.
I couldn't eat all.
Therefor I often bought some items for lunch or dinner in organic superstores.
There were tons of organic superstores, I've never seen normal one.
Birdbath Bakery was amazing! It was better than City Bakery. Every bread was organic.
